What kind of urban growth do Summerland residents want?
The District of Summerland, Sustainability Solutions Group and the citizens of Summerland are reviewing the Urban Growth Strategy and the Urban Growth Boundary to answer this question.
Summerland has seen a number of changes in recent years; abandonment of the Summerland Hills Golf Resort development, new climate action commitments, and an updated zoning bylaw.
To respond to these changes, the District has initiated a review of the Urban Growth Strategy, including an update to the Urban Growth Boundary. Housing costs, local jobs, sustainable agriculture, as well as community services and infrastructure are just some of the issues affected by the choices we make about where and how we grow.
The District is working with Sustainability Solutions Group to engage residents in these important decisions about our community’s future.
From April to September, Summerland residents are invited to help shape where we ‘grow’ from here by participating in online surveys and polls, interactive community events and more. Together, we’re going to answer questions like:
- Where are we going to locate future growth in the District of Summerland?
- What do we want this growth to look like?
- How will it stimulate economic growth?
